Biography

Biography

Hello!  My name is Maureen McMahon.  For those of you who don't know me, here's the lowdown:

I was born in 1952 in Niles, Michigan.  I discovered early in my youth a passion for writing and have been In search of my roots, I came to Australia in 1981 where I met and married my adorable husband, Peter, who is the love of my life and a wonderful supporter of my work.

We have two grown children, James and KatyAnne, who make me very proud with their many successes and achievements.

As to my writing credentials, I have published articles, short stories and/or poetry in such publications as Signature, Australian Runner, Australian Woman's Day, The Network, Futures and five anthologies.

My novel, Return of the Gulls is the first novel in a trilogy that stars Stacey Christian and Peter Mansfield as paranormal sleuths. A ghostly mystery set in an old Irish castle, it's available from most online stores in paperback, hardback, ebook and audio.

The second in the trilogy to Return of the Gulls is Ghosts of Auld Lang Syne. Peter Mansfield and Stacey Christian face another mystery at the secluded New England house belonging to a friend. Investigation into the ghost who haunts the house uncovers much more than anyone could have expected. It’s available in paperback, hardback, ebook and audio formats.

The third in the trilogy to Return of the Gulls is 'Neath Hallowed Halls and Ivied Walls. This nail-biter finds Stacey and Peter embroiled in a mystery set at their alma mater, Harvard. Paranormal encounters and deadly danger meet them as they investigate the death of their favorite history professor. It’s available in paperback, hardback, ebook and audio formats.

My novel, Shadows In The Mist, is a romantic mystery/suspense set in Ludington, MIchigan. It is a mystery steeped in romance, suspense and adventure with a hint of the supernatural. “Suzanna Dirkston becomes caught in a whirlpool of intrigue and danger surrounding her father’s death. Finding herself suddenly in charge of the impressive family estate, she must decide between the man she once loved, and the man her father has insisted she marry.” Shadows in the Mist is available in ebook, paperback, hardcover and audio.

I worked as a staff writer for Australian Runner for three years, have taught creative writing to children and adults at various schools and educational centers in Australia and in the U.S. and was an instructor for Writer's Online Workshops, the online school for Writer's Digest Magazine.

In 2001 I was honored by Western Michigan University as one of eleven Notable Alumni for my writing achievements and featured in the WMU Foundation Calendar.

When not writing or teaching, I distribute my time between my husband, my two grown children and seven grandchildren, my labrador breeding business, Jamareine Labradors, and a too often neglected paddock of proteas. For relaxation I enjoy fishing, reading, crosswords with my husband, travel, piano, guitar, crochet and swimming.

REVIEWS

I have earned the trust and satisfaction

“I thoroughly enjoyed reading Shadows in the Mist. It was a well-crafted book with excellent characterisation.”

Anna Jacobs

Author of Our Lizzie, Jessie, Like No Other, Lancashire Lass, the Gibson family saga and many more.

“Countless readers who yearn for more of Mary Stewart's blend of romance with mystery, and for whom Barbara Michaels cannot alone fill the gap, should welcome Maureen McMahon novels with open arms.“

Dianne Day

Author of the Freemont Jones mysteries, including Beacon Street Mourning and soon to be released Death Train To Boston

Return of the Gulls: "The gulls are gone, but their screeches still fill the air above the cliff overlooking Belderrig bay.  It's just one of the mysteries surrounding Gull Castle, where Stacey Christian finds herself on a romantic holiday that soon turns perilous.  Author Maureen McMahon creates an irresistible setting and tells an intriguing tale."

Martha C. Lawrence

Author of Pisces Rising, Aquarius Descending, Murder In Scorpio and many more.

“I'm a fan of gothics--especially if they stand above the crowd in the genre--and RETURN OF THE GULLS certainly does that.  Well fleshed, interesting characters, all with quirks and warts, a truly evil antagonist, a legend that comes to life, and a plot that meanders, twists, curls back on itself, and refuses to allow the  reader a chance to escape.

Mary Stewart mentored Ms. McMahon, at least in spirit, and this book shows how apt a pupil the author has proven herself to be.”

Patricia Lucas White

Author of Edwina Parkhurst Spinster, The Legend of Lejube Rogue and many more.
